My all time favorite band happens to include two of my very favorite peeps in the whole world: Andra Liemandt and Jenny Mason. (Yes, my friends are rockstars! How lucky am I!!!!)
“We write music and sing about topics that we all can relate to as women. The real challenges and triumphs we face in our lives as moms, as wives, as friends,” said Andra.
Andra first had the idea to start a band about nine years ago when she was taking her daughter to piano lessons. “All the moms decided to play around with the instruments at the music studio while we waited for our kids to finish their lessons. By the end of the year, I knew I’d caught the bug.”
She recruited one of our besties, Jenny Mason, to play the bass. Guitarist and singer Mandy Prater and singer and keyboardist Larissa Ness also joined.
They call themselves “The Mrs” and write most of their own music, taking lyrical inspiration from their own lives.
The band’s first single, titled “Enough”, was released in 2014. It’s truly one of my very favorite songs because it delivers an empowering message to all women: embrace yourself as you, flaws and all.
My girls and I often dance around the house while blaring this catchy tune…shouting the chorus outloud, fists pumping in the air….. “I’m enough!I’m enough!”
The very idea of being “enough” is exactly the message we all need more of in our lives. I love how The Mrs. are making music that both my daughters and I can enjoy and be inspired by.
“The inspiration of this song came from looking in the mirror and beating ourselves up about how we do as mothers, wives, sisters, employees, and friends,” Andra said.
“We realized that we needed to change our own critical inner voices – and say ENOUGH — and start seeing ourselves as other people see us — as worthy, beautiful women, inside and out.”
The band had no idea how big the impact of the song Enough would be…..especially after meeting with industry peeps in New York and LA and basically being told they were “too old to sell music.”
“They all told us we would never get radio airplay because we were too old. I am NOT kidding…..they actually said those exact words.”
I love it when women prove the status quo wrong!!!!!! The YouTube video of Enough went viral in 2014, reaching 5 million views (and climbing!)
The band has been featured on Good Morning America, The Queen LaTifah show and profiled in Billboard, Parents and People magazines.
The four of them are amazing to watch and the messages their music delivers is inspiring to women and children of all ages!!!!
Catch them this Saturday at Geraldines in The Hotel Van Zandt in Austin, Texas at 10:30pm.
